RE: Transfer switch

Are you sure you don't already have one? I am sure. Trailer didn't come with inverter. Our second MH didn't have an inverter and yet it had a txfr switch. Our switch was an electromagnet that directed 120VAC energy from the hookup post or genny to those appliances. I see now that you have a 5'er...what will a txrr switch do for you?

RE: Thanksgiving

Just wondering how many stay home for Thanksgiving or go somewhere for the holiday. And do you search for a nice restaurant or prepare your meal in your RV? We have done both. I'd like to go someplace but hubby is fine with staying home...so I guess I'll be cooking! We never traveled over or during a holiday. The lone exception was Labor Day but even then we'd leave home several days before Labor Day, find a spot and hunker down till the day after LD. When we started traveling during AUG-SEPT-OCT we'd use the same strategy. Find a spot several days or a week before and hunker down until the day after. One of only two times in 35-seasons that we complained to the park staff about excessive noise was during the LD weekend. A party of drunks were blasting music, screaming, yelling and making themselves a general nuisance throughout the CG. We complained, staff gave the drunks one warning (which they ignored) and then kicked them out of the park.

RE: Facing Prostate Surgery

Sorry to hear that. How are u feeling now? Feeling very good...back to where I was the day before this whole thing started back in May. I get tired a bit more easily than before but overall I'm back. :B. Thanks for asking.

RE: Inverter draw from battery for residential fridge

...now to get run time you will need to take into account the duty cycle of the fridge, what % of the time the compressor is running. and, of course, that will depend on how efficient the fridge is; how well insulated it is; its operating environment (is the interior of the RV cool, is the wall against which the fridge is installed in direct sunlight, shaded by trees or an awning); how often you open the fridge or freezer doors, etc.

RE: chassis battery charge ?

no way to know. likely would depend on the level of discharge. But, of more concern would be running the engine for short periods before engine gets to proper operating temperature. A 30-minute drive once a month should do it. Recommemd you reconsider the Trik-L-Start device. Inexpensive ans EZ to install. Trik-L-Start

RE: chassis battery charge ?

In the motorhomes we've owned plugging into shore power charged only the house batteries. But, we added a device...can't recall the name...that diverted a small amount of energy directed to the coach batteries to the chassis battery keeping it charged.

RE: Can I Dump Through Sewer Vent?

sure, that's not an oil tank fill? that was my guess. doesn't looks like any sewer clean-out access port that I've ever seen.

RE: Not to do retirement bucket list

The OP is asking what other 'what not to do things' due to retirement.... I'll add 1) Done with climbing on the roof 2) Done with high ladders 3) Done with mowing all 5 Acres, just around the house and hiring out the rest. :) I'm a ham radio opr...I have to get on the roof occasionally. But I fell off a ladder a few years back so I'm between a rock and a hard place with that. As for the lawn...heck, we have a tiny front yard and a heavily shaded/wooded small backyard where grass doesn't grow. We've hired out the lawn cutting for 30+ years now. Hired out the snow removal starting back in '15, too. Maybe I was semi-retired before I retired. :B

RE: Not to do retirement bucket list

Kind of tongue in cheek, but you always hear about people's retirement bucket list. At 68 plus and more retired than working, but still working, here is my don't want to do anymore bucket list. Please add your favs 1) Done with cruising, just not a cruising guy 2) Done with overseas trips, just cannot take those long flights anymore 3) Done with Zip lining 4) Done with crowds and waiting in line 5) Done (mostly) with high end restaurants, high price ok food, not worth it IMHO 1- Wife gets seasick easily, so... 2- Never had the desire. Too much to see here. 3- That's something I would like to try! 4- Totally agree. 5- The 'fanciest' restauarant we go to is Olive Garden. :B

RE: How to release drawer from glides.

depends on the drawer. i've run across two basic types. in each there is a release on the bottom of the glide...either close to the front or farther back. they either lift up or push down. one type lifts on one side while oushing down on the opposite side.

RE: do fluids do any harm when left in too long?

next year before we use it we would get everything done. but the question was has any harm been done? thanks wouldn't hurt to have a qualified service tech go ofer everything now, changing the fluids that need to be changed, etc. If there is damage it can be corrected now before you leave on a trip next year. Wait till then to have rhe coach examined and you may find your trip is canceled.

RE: Custom plastic ice box for Dometic freezer

Google and the internet are your best sources for this. A quick search for 'Plastic Freezer Storage Tray' turned up many sources including this one: https://www.temu.com/ul/kuiper/un9.html?subj=coupon-un&_bg_fs=1&_p_jump_id=895&_x_vst_scene=adg&goods_id=601099519574128&sku_id=17592229252384&adg_ctx=a-0c9c9cbb~c-f0b92e40&_x_ads_sub_channel=shopping&_p_rfs=1&_x_ns_prz_type=-1&_x_ns_sku_id=17592229252384&mrk_rec=1&_x_ads_channel=google&_x_gmc_account=647900107&_x_login_type=Google&_x_ads_account=1596626482&_x_ads_set=20493020362&_x_ads_id=156336043561&_x_ads_creative_id=671092084203&_x_ns_source=g&_x_ns_gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzOjTjoXlgQMVivSUCR32sQQFEAQYASABEgLr6vD_BwE&_x_ns_placement=&_x_ns_match_type=&_x_ns_ad_position=&_x_ns_product_id=17592229252384&_x_ns_target=&_x_ns_devicemodel=&_x_ns_wbraid=CjkKCQjw4P6oBhD6ARIoAHW15XB5RPqNwZexjAhAAO9p19Y8EC2CNxq6F-nu_9f4dY1fz_WDyxoC-XE&_x_ns_gbraid=0AAAAAo4mICGEjI3vd3JupTOVtgfvFM7xO&_x_ns_targetid=pla-2190395715516&gbraid=0AAAAAo4mICGEjI3vd3JupTOVtgfvFM7xO&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzOjTjoXlgQMVivSUCR32sQQFEAQYASABEgLr6vD_BwE

RE: Winter travel

We just keep the heat on. More expensive that winterizing but much easier! if you do that be sure to place a 60 or 100-watt incandescent light bulb in the wet bay. many RVs, even basement models, don't heat that area. cheap insurance. Amazon still has incandescent bulbs available.

RE: Progressive RV Insurance requires you to have another car?

I do not think it is fraud. I think they don't want you using your rather expensive RV as a "Daily Driver" and want to be sure you have a "Daily Driver" for things like going to Church on Sunday or running to the store for a pound of hotdogs. Bingo. This and nothing more. And the OP and people like him are the reason they have this “rule” as RV insurance is way less $ than auto insurance just like pleasure vehicles are less than daily drivers... Maybe RV insurance is less expensive than auto insurance in some areas but not for us. The most recent annual premium on 2016 40' (39' and change) class A gasser was $1159. Collectively, the most recent premiums on our three other vehicles ('46 Willys, 2010 Jeep Liberty, 2023 Jeep Wrangler) were $1872. The most expensive annual of the three, the Liberty, was $763. All vehicles have full coverage and other than some comprehensive hail damage on the Liberty there have been no claims.
